Stepping into IMCNC Carving Experience, you won't find the expected pungent glue or sawdust smells. Instead, there's a faint, pleasant woody aroma. The bright, clean space completely overturned YY's stereotype of dusty woodworking venues. Each machine is enclosed in its own compartment, and even when operating, only a regular, subtle hum can be heard, making for a quiet and comfortable environment.

Under the instructor's gentle guidance, complex machine principles are broken down into easy-to-understand steps. From machine structure to safety precautions, even the children in our group listened attentively and confidently pressed the start button. Participants simply choose their favorite design, engrave a personalized message, and let the professional CNC machine handle the rest.

Watching the carving tool move precisely across the wood, with subtle sounds, as patterns and text gradually take shape, is a truly therapeutic process. The highlight of this Taichung Woodworking experience, perhaps, isn't the sweaty hammering and planing, but rather the chance to witness firsthand how technology breathes new life into traditional craftsmanship.

Mandy's latest experience at Mumu Creative Base was crafting a wooden pen. The instructor first had Mandy try out sample pens to find a shape that felt comfortable to write with. As the carving neared completion, she could test the pen again for fine adjustments, ensuring she truly created a personalized pen that fit her perfectly.

Throughout the Taichung Woodworking experience, the instructor was professional and attentive to student safety, meticulously explaining the precautions for each step. For instance, when carving shapes, the instructor detailed everything from the speed and angle of the blade to the proper finger pressure.

Additionally, the instructor tailored teaching methods to each student's skill level. For example, there are both basic European chisels and more advanced Chinese chisels, and these were assigned based on the student's experience.

Carpenters Workshop is a Taichung Woodworking tourist factory in Houli, founded by a brother and sister duo who transformed their family's woodworking factory to carry on its legacy.

In addition to free admission to play with whimsical wooden toys like seesaws and stilts, visitors can also purchase wooden goods or take Taichung Woodworking DIY classes. The Taichung Woodworking DIY classroom itself was converted from the original warehouse.

Carpenters Workshop offers a diverse range of Taichung Woodworking experience classes, with over 20 options, from basic tableware to everyday small items.

In the Taichung Woodworking classroom, besides the dedicated instructors, the on-site staff are also very familiar with the Taichung Woodworking process. If an instructor is busy, other venue personnel are available to answer any questions.

Mandy made cypress chopsticks at Carpenters Workshop. The instructor had all the DIY materials and tools ready, and before the class, introduced the venue's history and philosophy.

Once the Taichung Woodworking class began, each step was demonstrated in advance, with reminders of what to watch out for, and explanations of the reasoning behind each detail. For example, why two different grits of sandpaper are needed when sanding cypress, or why crushed walnut oil is applied to the chopsticks at the end.

During the Taichung Woodworking experience, you also pick up practical tips. After finishing your DIY chopsticks, they're packaged in a stylish little burlap bag.

Mandy highly recommends Carpenters Workshop for family outings or groups of friends; the Taichung Woodworking experience, combined with nearby attractions, makes for a fun day trip.

Introduction

Qinmu Handicraft is located in Taichung's Tanzi District, near Songzhu Train Station and Costco Beitun. This Taichung Woodworking studio is on the second floor; the clear sign on the first floor makes it easy to find. Just ring the doorbell and walk up to the second floor to reach the DIY classroom.

Qinmu Handicraft combines cultural and creative elements with hands-on crafting, offering a variety of woodworking experience courses, with handmade pens being the most renowned. When booking, you'll need to select your item in advance, then confirm the style on-site, where you can try out different pens and choose your preferred wood.

Classes typically have four or fewer participants. The studio isn't large, so all the tools for each step are just a few steps away. The drilling equipment is semi-automatic, requiring precise manual operation in addition to machine use.

Once your wooden pen is complete, a leather pen case and packaging box are provided, along with a small photo area to capture images of your finished creation.

While the Qinmu Handicraft studio is small, the overall environment is comfortable. You can complete all the steps without moving around too much, which gives you a sense of being a miniature artisan and allows you to focus more on the Taichung Woodworking experience.

Mandy signed up for the wooden pen making class. Before class, the instructor presented a charming small box containing wood samples for each step, explaining the entire Taichung Woodworking DIY process. The combination of explanation and physical examples was very effective.

During the wooden pen making process, the instructor also clearly explained each step and what to pay attention to.

Regarding the finer details, Mandy felt that the instructor at Qinmu Handicraft gave students more freedom to express themselves. If a student accidentally carved too much, the instructor would step in to make adjustments as needed, ensuring that students could complete a piece with their own style without worrying about ruining it.

Stepping into Chen Sculpture Studio, you're immediately enveloped in a rich, traditional wooden aesthetic. Even the stairs and ceiling in the studio are repurposed woodworking pieces, creating a distinctive old-house atmosphere filled with the scent of wood.

Before class, the instructor had already prepped the wood for each student. This Taichung Woodworking experience primarily focuses on learning to shape wood with carving tools.

Wendy found the actual carving to be quite challenging, requiring a feel for the material and the ability to identify the wood grain for effective carving.

Throughout the process, the master carver repeatedly emphasized the importance of patience, urging students not to rush and to "converse" with the wood. Wendy even noticed that when carving in the right direction, the wood would begin to shine!

By the end of the woodworking class, each person's finished piece had its own unique character. Packaging bags were provided on-site, and you could even bag up your wood shavings to take home, allowing you to continue enjoying the unique aroma of the wood.

Test Rite Maker Space's Xitun Branch has a woodworking classroom on B1, a compact space that accommodates about 8 people. Wendy chose to make a "Vientiane" table lamp, a swivel-style design. The instructor had already prepared the materials, cutting the wood into smaller pieces, so the class only required assembly and gluing with an electric drill.

Wendy found this Taichung woodworking class ideal for beginners looking to easily complete a project. The instructor also shared the creative philosophy behind the woodworking projects and allowed plenty of room for individual creativity during the DIY process.
