Introduction

Qingchang Climbing Life Center is about a 10-minute walk from the Ecological District MRT Station.

The gym has two floors. The front of the first floor features a rare arched structure, creating challenging ceiling and overhanging terrain, while the 13-meter-high top-rope climbing area at the back allows for free climbing. The second floor has simpler terrain, suitable for warm-ups and practicing basic techniques, and includes a simple bathroom for post-climb cleanup.

Bouldering classes are small, with about 3 to 5 students per session, including regulars and new beginners. The instructor leads warm-ups on the bouldering mats and climbing wall, thoroughly preparing joints and muscles while also familiarizing students with movement and center of gravity.

Uniquely, this Kaohsiung bouldering gym doesn't have set routes by difficulty. Instead, the instructor assigns routes or heights based on individual skill levels. Students climb in turns, and the instructor provides one-on-one feedback and corrections for their movements.

Stepping into Qingchang Climbing Life Center, the first thing you notice is the lounge area, where the owner's handwritten notes on Rock Climbing in Kaohsiung are displayed. These cover everything from the textures of rocks across Taiwan to the many health benefits of the sport, offering a wealth of knowledge that's both engaging and educational.

What truly struck Wendy about this venue was the absence of graded routes or marked paths, which initially left her, accustomed to challenging herself on the wall, feeling a bit disoriented.

However, this unique approach means that at Qingchang, anyone can approach the wall without pressure, regardless of their skill level. You can choose holds that suit your ability and adjust your climbing height freely, eliminating the frustration of not completing a set route.

Baoshi Base is an industrial-style Rock Climbing in Kaohsiung, about a 15-minute walk from Zuoying MRT Station.

The venue features a high-ceilinged, split-level design. The first floor houses the main bouldering area, along with lockers, restrooms, a water dispenser, and seating. The second floor is dedicated to advanced bouldering, featuring a nearly 360-degree climbing wall and a lounge area with sofas, a teaching TV, and massage rollers.

The difficulty levels range from VB-V6, with 9 grades in total and over 60 routes. Routes in one section are changed approximately every two weeks.

The bouldering experience class begins with a warm-up, followed by a step-by-step explanation of bouldering techniques and rules, instruction on safe landing, and guided climbs on several beginner routes.

Baoshi Base charges a single-day, unlimited-time pass. If you sign up for the beginner experience class, the fee includes a full-day pass, the class fee, and equipment.

Baoshi Base retains its corrugated metal walls and incorporates shipping containers into the decor, creating an atmosphere perfectly suited for Rock Climbing in Kaohsiung. The venue is not only spacious but also very clean, thoughtfully providing a rest area and massage rollers for climbers to relax comfortably after a session.

For Jessie, who was new to bouldering, the coach's professionalism was paramount. During the one-hour introductory lesson, the instructor meticulously explained the equipment, rules, and safe falling techniques. After a few guided climbs, Jessie began to find this sport, which requires the coordinated use of hands and feet—and even a bit of strategic thinking—quite captivating.

There aren't many Rock Climbing venues in Kaohsiung, and Baoshi Base ranks among Jessie's top indoor bouldering gyms. In addition to offering numerous routes that are regularly updated, the clean, spacious, and cool environment makes climbing truly enjoyable.

B-topia Climbing Gym is located in the bustling Sanduo Business District, just a one-minute walk from Exit 3 of Sanduo Shopping District MRT Station.

The gym occupies the second floor of a building. Though it's a single-floor space, the interior is very spacious, featuring restrooms, changing rooms, a teaching area, a water dispenser, and dining tables. They also provide massage rollers for post-workout use.

This venue offers four full climbing walls, with bouldering routes ranging from V0 to V6 across seven difficulty levels. A section of these routes is updated almost every week.

The front desk also offers chalk bags and climbing shoes for rent. In addition to beginner bouldering experience courses, they periodically host group classes and myofascial roller usage tutorials.

B-topia Climbing Gym is tucked away in an older building, and while the entrance is unassuming, the interior is surprisingly spacious and well-designed. Two large glass windows flood the space with natural light.

Rock climbing is an exhausting sport, so for Jessie, a good rest area is crucial. B-topia scores major points with separate men's and women's restrooms, a dining area, seating, and a foot-washing station.

During the introductory class, the coach guided us through warm-ups and taught safety techniques before leading us on a few easy routes. When Jessie struggled to find the right holds, the coach patiently pointed out their locations and corrected her posture, making it much easier for a beginner to pick up the sport.

Jessie also has to mention this Kaohsiung rock climbing venue's unique group practice days. Simply purchase a ticket on a scheduled date to join in. They even offer children's climbing camps, and these diverse activities have Jessie eager to return.

Introduction

This Rock Climbing in Kaohsiung venue is conveniently located on the third floor of the Global Mall, inside Zuoying High-Speed Rail Station. It's easily accessible by public transport like the MRT, High-Speed Rail, or train, and if you're driving, parking at the Zuoying train station's rear exit is also very convenient.

Boulder Space Zuoying offers a spacious environment. If you bring your own gear, a single admission allows you to enjoy both top-rope climbing and bouldering. The venue has two auto-belay machines, though the top-rope routes are limited.

The bouldering area features a large central island, a kids' wall, and a Kilter board, offering diverse terrain. There are over 60 routes throughout the gym, with difficulties ranging from V0 to V7, and one section of routes is updated weekly. The air conditioning in this climbing gym operates with the department store's system, so it can get a bit warm during summer workouts. Staff numbers are limited, so if children are visiting, extra attention to safety is advised!

I arrived at Boulder Space - Zuoying Branch, located on the third floor of Global Mall, by scooter, parking in the paid lot behind the train station and walking about three minutes.

The counter at Boulder Space can be a bit hard to find, and it's often unattended due to limited staff. I had to walk into the climbing area and call out for an employee to pay for entry, but the gym owner's chill attitude meant it wasn't a big deal.

The venue is spacious, and the bouldering area's central island offers varied and interesting routes, though most require a good deal of foundational strength. The kids' wall, however, is much more beginner-friendly, and new climbers should find it rewarding. The top-rope area has two auto-belay systems; I brought my own harness and climbed all four auto-belay routes. They weren't particularly difficult but demanded a lot of muscular endurance.

Overall, this climbing gym is suitable for both experienced and new climbers. Beginners can focus on practicing on the balance wall, while intermediate to advanced climbers will quickly lose skin on the dynamic routes, large slab, overhang, and Kilter board combinations, so climb wisely!

However, this gym is next to the arcade, so it can be noisy, and passersby often stop to watch, which means less privacy. Aside from the large slab area, the other walls get quite warm, and children in the gym can be a bit unruly. I recommend going with a partner for mutual support and safety.
