Our family dinner at OT Kitchen featured a 12-dish set menu that delighted both the eyes and the palate! We started with the runny-yolk hand-cut black pork braised pork rice, topped with a raw-grade soft-boiled egg from Dawu Mountain. The egg yolk mixed with the braised pork created a rich, smooth, and surprisingly delicious opening.

Next, the garlic sprout black pork salted pork and dry-fried sesame oil black pork pork jowl were both hearty and flavorful, making them perfect with rice. Beyond the black pork dishes, the spicy poached chicken, Puli water bamboo and scallion omelet, salt and pepper chicken cartilage, and basil-infused Yunlin clams were all equally impressive.

Given the rich flavors of Taiwanese cuisine, I paired our meal with a premium green honeybush tea. It was sugar-free and caffeine-free, yet refreshingly light and surprisingly complementary to the dishes. We concluded with a chocolate gradient panna cotta and French caramel crème brûlée—smooth and sweet, a perfect ending to a delightful and abundant family meal.

Overall, OT Kitchen offers excellent value, with a wide selection of delicious set menus. From the first bite, you can taste the venue's commitment to quality ingredients and the chef's skill. Beyond the food, the comfortable ambiance makes it ideal for family or friends gatherings, earning it a spot on my list of favorite Taichung Dining Venues for family dinners.

During peak hours, the dining room fills up quickly, creating a lively atmosphere due to the crowds and close table spacing. For a more comfortable and private conversation, a separate private room is recommended.

The menu primarily features Chinese cuisine, with some dishes available in small or large portions. Small portions are suitable for 3 to 4 people, while large portions are recommended for 6 to 8, allowing for thoughtful adjustments based on your group size.

Their signature roasted goose proudly uses locally sourced Taiwanese goose, supporting local farmers. Chef recommendations include "Flaming Roasted Goose" and "Dingyuan Grand Roasted Goose," both visually appealing with a glossy, delicious sheen. Tracy found the goose meat to be crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with fragrant, crispy skin and moist, succulent meat—a truly deserving signature dish!

The Sakura Shrimp Fried Rice is incredibly aromatic, packed with sakura shrimp, and each grain of rice is perfectly distinct. Another dish that truly impressed Tracy was the Golden Thread Taro Roll: crispy fried taro paste wrapped in fine noodles. Eaten hot, it's delightfully crunchy on the outside and sweet on the inside, leaving a lasting impression!

Upon entering the venue, Aga and her family were promptly seated by the front-of-house staff. The dining area is spacious with ample seating, and the decor is elegantly minimalist, perfect for a photo-worthy spread. There's also a bar on the first floor for guests who prefer just a drink.

Once seated, the server quickly introduced the menu and assisted with ordering. This visit, we chose the Moon-Gazing Scallion Oil Rice, Signature Taiwanese Fried Pork, Sichuan Spicy Boiled Beef, Teppanyaki Scrambled Eggs, and Old-Fashioned Brown Sugar Ginger Tea (upgraded to Aged Ginger Milk Tea), totaling NT$1320 including service charge. Overall, the food selection was extensive, and dishes arrived quickly, with the first course served in about eight minutes.

This Taichung Dining Venues primarily offers Taiwanese cuisine, and the chef maintains a strict policy against customizing dishes. Aga personally recommends the boiled beef, which pairs wonderfully with the Moon-Gazing Rice. The signature fried pork, however, was rather ordinary and a bit dry; perhaps a fish dish would be a better choice next time. After the meal, Aga and her family felt satisfied, though a slightly larger portion size would have added to the sense of abundance.

The dining environment and atmosphere were comfortable, with a pleasant temperature and soft background music. The private rooms on the second floor are well-separated from other dining areas, avoiding any cramped feeling, making them suitable for family or company gatherings.

Overall, this is a suitable Chinese venue for family and corporate meals, with acceptable environment, food, and service. The only drawback was the staff training; their menu knowledge was lacking, and their tone and responses weren't entirely professional. At one point, we could hear servers chatting and laughing nearby.

Shelly and a friend visited Xinyuan Cuisine, parking conveniently in the venue's designated spots.

Upon being seated, the staff warmly introduced the menu and offered recommendations. We opted for the two-person set meal, choosing the Braised Pork Belly with Preserved Vegetables and the signature Shrimp and Moon Jellyfish with Rain Mushroom as our main dishes. For drinks, we both selected plum juice. That day's dessert was red bean panna cotta, and we upgraded one of them to a Lukang flour tea cake.

The main dishes were seasoned perfectly, light and not greasy, while the flour tea cake had a unique flavor and a moist texture. The venue also offered complimentary homemade dried fish chili, which Shelly found absolutely delicious—its spicy aroma not only whetted her appetite but also enhanced the overall flavors of the meal.

Our meal at Chunjiu was in a private room on the second floor. The space was independent and the seating spacious, with antique decor and paintings on the walls, complemented by soft lighting. The atmosphere was calm and serene, perfect not only for family gatherings but also for business dinners and celebrations.

The menu is an omakase design, available by reservation only, with a well-paced progression of dishes. It starts with refreshing appetizers, followed by cold dishes and main courses, each building layers of flavor. The meal culminates with their signature golden chicken soup, then finishes with congee and dessert. Different price points correspond to different items, but the overall presentation consistently maintains a high standard, offering refinement without sacrificing portion size.

The most surprising highlight was the golden chicken soup. Its broth was clear and bright yellow, with a rich, gelatinous texture that revealed a deep flavor, slowly simmered over time. It was rich but not greasy, distinct yet not ostentatious—no wonder it's a Chunjiu signature. Another classic, the "Wagyu Silver Thread Rolls," was equally memorable: crispy fried rolls paired with rich Wagyu slices, creating a dish full of layers, combining familiar and innovative flavors that epitomize the venue's culinary style.

Appetizers like shredded tofu or seasonal seafood cold dishes were exquisitely plated, with clean and refreshing textures, making them an ideal start to awaken the palate. It's worth noting that while the overall cuisine is rooted in Taiwanese dishes, it's not the "old-fashioned Taiwanese flavor" of traditional perception. Instead, it's a new interpretation, deconstructed and reassembled, offering surprises within the familiar.

However, a small reminder is needed: Chunjiu's dishes are innovative interpretations of traditional cuisine. If elderly companions are not accustomed to variations in dishes, or prefer the unchanging taste and style of classic Taiwanese flavors, it might be necessary to communicate this specifically or carefully consider if it's suitable.

Overall, this Taichung Dining Venues offers a dining experience where flavor and ambiance are equally important. It's more than just a meal; it's like participating in a contemporary expression of a familiar culture. It's perfect for gourmands who appreciate delicate cuisine and are open to new flavors.
