Perhaps due to his military background, the instructors at Bear Dive always inspire a sense of security. Sign up free Log in to read the full content Recommended Google Facebook LINE 02 ## Bear Dive Experience Review Bear Dive Experience Review Upon arriving at Bear Dive for a Diving in Xiaoliuqiu experience, I was immediately greeted with a warm welcome and a refreshing drink, which instantly lifted my spirits and offered a welcome respite from the heat. The venue itself is spacious and never feels crowded. There are plenty of showers, all with separate wet and dry areas, so you never have to wait to get your gear or change. I especially appreciated the thoughtful addition of lockers with combination locks; after changing, I could securely store my bag and belongings without worrying about them getting wet or rusty. ### ✦Before Your Dive Before Diving in Xiaoliuqiu, the instructor provided Guansiu with a well-fitting wetsuit and carefully explained how to put it on. All the equipment, from the wetsuit to the mask and snorkel, was in excellent, like-new condition. One of the biggest concerns when diving is old, worn-out gear, but Bear Dive excels in hygiene and equipment maintenance. After changing, we hopped into the instructor's pickup truck and headed to Shanfu Fishing Harbor. For certified divers coming to Xiaoliuqiu for Fun Diving, Bear Dive instructors first ask about your most recent dive and how long it's been since then. They observe your proficiency while you assemble your gear, and before heading to the ocean, they verbally review basic skills. Before each dive, they conduct a thorough briefing on the planned depth, duration, marine life, potential hazards, emergency procedures, and entry/exit plans, with a particular emphasis on emergency protocols. The instructor then carefully dressed Guanxiu and performed a final check of all the gear. Since verbal communication is impossible underwater, the instructor first taught Guanxiu several hand signals and reminded her not to touch sea turtles or other animals if they encountered any, but rather to observe them quietly from a distance. He even shared tips for taking beautiful underwater photos! This rigorous pre-dive preparation is a key focus at Bear Dive, ensuring clear communication on land for everyone's safety and highlighting the venue's professionalism. ### ✦Dive in After completing all the preparations for Diving in Xiaoliuqiu, the sight of Xiaoliuqiu's clear, turquoise waters filled me with excitement. Guided by the instructor, I first entered the shallow area where I could still touch the sandy bottom. Following the instructor's commands, I practiced breathing with the equipment underwater. After a few attempts and the instructor's patient guidance, I was ready to dive in! For Diving in Xiaoliuqiu, instructors typically decide the dive site based on wind direction and weather conditions. Due to environmental factors, Xiaoliuqiu's dive sites are broadly divided into northern and southern areas. This time, Bear Dive's experience took us to the northern area near Shanfu Fishing Harbor; for the southern side, Lobster Cave comes highly recommended. Xiaoliuqiu is also home to a celebrity sea turtle, Jenny, who is particularly friendly and has garnered much attention and affection. Beyond sea turtles, Xiaoliuqiu boasts a rich variety of sea slugs, making it ideal for experienced divers who enjoy macro photography. Once you dive in, you're greeted by a spectacular, endless expanse of coral reef, and almost immediately, a large sea turtle appears, munching on seagrass for breakfast. The Bear Dive instructor was incredibly professional, allowing Guanxiu to approach the turtle slowly and without disturbing it. In the crystal-clear water, it was Guanxiu's first time seeing a sea turtle up close, and every detail was visible: the patterns on its shell, the wrinkles on its neck, the spots on its face, and its adorable way of nibbling on the seagrass. During the entire Diving in Xiaoliuqiu experience at Bear Dive, we later saw at least three or four more sea turtles. The instructor's gentle movements allowed Guanxiu to stay quietly beside the turtles, and every set of photos was perfectly captured. After we saw the sea turtles, our instructor led us further along to a beautiful staghorn coral formation, made up of countless polyps. Many black-and-white fish, looking as if they were wearing pants, swam gracefully above the coral. Of course, we also sought out the clownfish's home. The sea anemones swayed with the current, and the orange-and-white clownfish darted in and out, their vibrant colors standing out against the deep blue sea. The Bear Dive instructors are truly excellent photographers! I remembered their tips from shore — get low, get close — and every shot came out clear and adorable. Looking back, I can vividly recall how happy I was in the water. Reluctantly, we surfaced, and the coach thoughtfully checked if everything was alright. Guanhsiu loudly and contentedly declared it excellent! Then, leaning on the coach's arm, she slowly walked back to shore. Scuba gear is quite heavy, but we were back at the car in no time. The coach meticulously helped Guanhsiu remove her gear, and we headed back to Bear Dive training center to shower. Upon arriving at the venue, the coach immediately took the gear for a freshwater rinse. Guanhsiu observed that Bear Dive's equipment was very well-maintained, and the coaches were diligent about cleaning and upkeep. The wetsuits also had clear markings, making it easy to spot divers in the vast ocean.
