Introduction

Liuqian is conveniently located within a 5-minute walk of the Xiaoliuqiu pier. The venue is a single-story building with new, neatly organized equipment. The classroom doubles as a backpacker dorm, and students receive a discount on accommodation. The environment is clean and cozy, making it easy to get ready for class right after waking up.

Freediving in Xiaoliuqiu courses can be started with just one person, maintaining a student-to-instructor ratio of no more than 3:1. For groups of four or more, an additional instructor will be provided. In addition to regular weekend classes, those with tight schedules in Xiaoliuqiu can customize their class schedule, splitting lessons to accommodate their time off, and the venue will thoughtfully coordinate classes with ferry times.

The AIDA2 theory class is held in the backpacker dorm classroom, followed by pool practice, and finally, open water practice and examination. Students are added to a LINE group and a group practice club, with monthly group practice sessions available.

This freediving venue also partners with a scooter rental shop, offering students discounted rates for scooter rentals, which can also be split among classmates.

Hermione, an experienced diver in both scuba and freediving, found herself stuck in a freediving plateau and decided to seek out a highly-rated professional instructor for Freediving in Xiaoliuqiu certification.

The course began with fundamental physics and biology, then progressed to various diving concepts, building a logical foundation that proved incredibly helpful for the practical sessions, making it easier to master each movement and technique.

With encouragement from Coach Qianqian, Hermione successfully held her breath for 3 minutes and 2 seconds, achieving a new personal best. Although she struggled with equalization, the coach patiently introduced over three different equalization methods, using various small tricks to guide her.

The entire process felt incredibly comfortable and relaxed. The coach paid close attention to detail, explaining each lesson thoroughly without creating any pressure, and constantly checked on the students' physical and mental well-being while at sea. Ofucos was founded by Ofu, an adventurer who loves extreme sports and created the Ofucos coaching team to offer a variety of outdoor experiences and courses.

Ofucos currently has dive centers in Taipei and Xiaoliuqiu. In addition to offering AIDA system courses, it has also been selected as a PADI Five Star Dive Center.

The Freediving in Xiaoliuqiu center is less than a five-minute drive from Dafu Port, with many restaurants nearby. If you plan to get your freediving certification in Xiaoliuqiu, the team can also assist with transportation and accommodation.

Alma was a complete beginner at Freediving in Xiaoliuqiu, having only had scuba diving experience before. Ofucos's instructors, with over 10 years of extensive freediving experience, transformed complex theory into easily understandable lessons for Alma. They were also incredibly friendly, making the learning experience relaxed and comfortable.

During the afternoon's confined water session, the instructor showed immense patience, continuously guiding Alma to perfect her movements, which better prepared her for the upcoming open water training.

Throughout the three open water sessions, the instructor patiently demonstrated and explained solutions for every challenge Alma faced, whether it was equalization issues, difficulties with duck dives, or seasickness.

Calista, who used to work in Xiaoliuqiu, is very familiar with the local waters. This time, she visited Heyhey Dive's Xiaoliuqiu flagship for a Fundive, not only to observe the venue's facilities but also to focus on the teaching experience and other aspects.

Calista really appreciates that Heyhey Dive has its own pool. It's incredibly convenient for students to practice, allowing them to get comfortable with their gear and the feel of the water before heading out to sea, which helps reduce anxiety. The atmosphere is also very relaxed and laid-back, designed to feel like an international resort.

The instructors for freediving in Xiaoliuqiu don't come across as overly strict or distant. The overall vibe is relaxed and comfortable, yet still highly professional. Throughout the experience, the instructor chatted with Calista and constantly monitored her situation. For instance, when Calista was taking off her fins before getting out of the water, she felt a bit nervous due to her slow movements, worrying about being knocked over by a wave. The instructor stayed nearby, watching the waves and offering reassurance.

The entire experience left Calista feeling well-cared for and warm-hearted, making her want to return for another visit.

VD Freediving is less than a 10-minute walk from Dafu Fishing Harbor, offering customized freediving courses and surfing lessons.

Freediving courses range from beginner to instructor level, with certification systems including Molchanovs and AIDA. The instructor team hails from Malaysia, Taiwan, and France.

The VD Freediving team is quite large. Calm water courses can be completed in northern Taiwan, while ocean training courses are available in New Taipei, Keelung, Xiaoliuqiu, and Taichung's Divecube.

Compared to typical 3-day freediving courses in Xiaoliuqiu, VD Freediving's beginner course averages 7 days, including 4 theory classes, 4 calm water sessions, and 3 open water sessions. Having previously learned scuba, Allen chose VD Freediving for his Freediving in Xiaoliuqiu certification after comparing numerous courses. Not only was the curriculum more comprehensive and robust than other dive shops, but the ability to complete academic and pool training in northern Taiwan offered greater flexibility.

The best part is that the course combines two freediving systems, so there's no need to compare AIDA versus Molchanovs — you get both certifications upon successful completion!

Initially, Allen struggled with finning in the pool, finding it hard to straighten his ankles and knees, and frequently cramping, which forced him to stop and stretch multiple times. Despite this, the coach and assistant coach patiently observed his technique, offering encouragement that gave him the confidence and security to continue training.

During the open water training, Allen's susceptibility to seasickness and the head-down position made equalization more challenging. Although he ultimately had to rely on the Valsalva maneuver for descent, he appreciated that the coach recorded videos and provided thorough explanations of his technique back in the classroom, allowing him to clearly see his progress.

### Co_diving About the Venue

Introduction

Co_diving is a freediving studio in Xiaoliuqiu, conveniently located near Dafu Fishing Harbor, so you can walk directly to the boat. Outside the venue is a gear washing area, while inside you'll find a common room and a backpacker dorm, all with a stylish, artistic vibe. The backpacker dorm is a six-person room, with each bed featuring its own privacy curtain and charging port.

All freediving courses are by appointment only and follow the AIDA system, with a maximum student-to-instructor ratio of 1:4. If there are more than four students, an additional instructor will be provided.

Certification courses include theory, confined water practice, and open water training. Theory classes can be taken remotely via video call, allowing students to practice equalization in advance. Confined water training is conducted in a pool in collaboration with other dive venues.

After completing the course, alumni can join open water training sessions for free. Instructors will set up ropes and buoys for alumni to practice, ensuring safety through a buddy system.

Even though I've had years of experience with watersports, I still felt nervous about the unknown underwater world. Luckily, the instructor's gentle and patient demeanor gave me more courage and reassurance during our ocean training.

For most students, equalization is the biggest challenge in Freediving in Xiaoliuqiu. The Co_diving instructor explains any difficult points in simple, easy-to-understand language tailored to each student.

They've also produced YouTube videos demonstrating how to use an equalization device, and the venue provides these devices for students to practice anytime, which is incredibly helpful.

Throughout the entire experience, the instructor not only taught the sport of freediving but also frequently promoted environmental awareness, encouraging everyone to protect the beautiful ocean while enjoying it.

Y space is a single-story guesthouse with three rooms (doubles and quads) located in Zhongyang Lane, Xiaoliuqiu.

They primarily offer AIDA certification courses, with the AIDA2 Freediving in Xiaoliuqiu course lasting three days. Theory classes are held in the venue's living room. Equalization, breath-holding, and dynamic apnea are taught in calm harbors or coastal waters, while constant weight diving and rescue techniques are practiced directly at sea.

This venue has two instructors, and classes can be held with just one student, up to a maximum of four.

During the three-day Freediving in Xiaoliuqiu course, Lulu was impressed by Y space's meticulous, dedicated, and professional approach.

The two instructors adapted their teaching methods to each student's physical and mental state, carefully observing underwater movements and offering various ways to address students' challenges or questions. Evening sessions included video reviews of descent techniques, ensuring a very thorough learning experience.

If students had questions during practice, they could send videos to the instructors for feedback. The course also included video and photo shoots, with instructors even helping with color correction and retouching. This meant students not only received beautiful freediving photos but also gained a clearer understanding of their areas for improvement.

Lulu, new to freediving, felt completely at ease thanks to the instructors' thoughtful explanations and guidance. Beyond professional instruction, they offered abundant encouragement. When frustrated with equalization, she remembered the instructor's words: enjoying each dive is what truly matters, allowing her to gradually fall in love with the feeling of exploring the ocean while freediving in Xiaoliuqiu.
