#A pure ski secret where you can focus on your turns

REVIEWED BY [妙麗](https://www.twosevenths.com/en/tag/%E5%A6%99%E9%BA%97)

EXPERIENCED · 2025.12.18

Kagura Ski Resort, tucked away in the deep mountains of Echigo-Yuzawa, Niigata, is a powder snow paradise with some of the best snow quality in the Kanto and Kansai regions, and it's Hermione's personal pure haven among Echigo-Yuzawa Ski Resort options. Its biggest advantages are the astonishingly long season and consistent snow quality, typically allowing skiing from early winter all the way to late spring.

While Kagura is often labeled as "advanced skiers only," Hermione had her very first ski experience here and absolutely loved it! The terrain is varied and offers a sense of freedom, and it's not crowded, allowing beginners to practice without pressure and simply enjoy the thrill of skiing.

What's truly captivating is the divine scenery. On a clear day, looking out from the highest point, you're greeted by an endless vista of magnificent, snow-capped mountain ridges—a visually stunning experience that will leave you speechless.

This venue lacks excessive commercialism; while the downside is a relatively modest number of restaurants and rest areas, which are more simple and rustic, this effectively filters out purely tourist crowds. The facilities are certainly sufficient for skiing needs. If you're tired of crowded photo-op spots and simply seek ultimate snow quality, a sense of free-flowing turns, and the tranquility of being surrounded by nature, Kagura is a ski destination you'll deeply fall in love with and return to again and again.

## Ishiuchi Maruyama Ski Resort 石打丸山滑雪場

### 石打丸山滑雪場 About the Venue

Introduction

Ishiuchi Maruyama Ski Resort is a landmark in the Echigo-Yuzawa Ski Resort area, blending a rich history with modern flair, and is just a 10-minute free shuttle ride from Echigo-Yuzawa Shinkansen Station. The Resort Center at the entrance resembles an art museum, with expansive floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light, offering visitors a refreshing welcome.

The venue boasts well-planned facilities, most notably the Sunrise Express, a hybrid gondola. This lift system combines 10-person cabins with 6-person heated chairlifts, ensuring guests a comfortable and warm ascent to the summit, protected from wind and snow.

Beyond ski lessons and equipment rentals, this resort also caters to non-skiers. The Snow Garden play area and The Veranda observation deck are located mid-mountain, where guests can reserve transparent dome tents for afternoon tea. Additionally, the venue offers Japan's largest night skiing service, complete with excellent lighting.

The dining options here are equally extensive, with over 20 restaurants scattered across the slopes. The culinary styles are diverse, ranging from chic Austrian imperial cuisine to cozy Showa-era diners, satisfying every palate.

#Transparent Tents for an Elegant, Full-On Snow Resort Vibe

REVIEWED BY [妙麗](https://www.twosevenths.com/en/tag/%E5%A6%99%E9%BA%97)

EXPERIENCED · 2025.12.18

Ishiuchi Maruyama Ski Resort, located in the heart of Echigo-Yuzawa, is not only one of the largest and oldest classic resorts in the area, but also a comprehensive ski destination that I instantly fell in love with.

The moment I stepped onto the slopes, I was struck by the sheer vastness of this resort. Its biggest draw is more than 20 wide, long, and varied runs, with an extremely even distribution of slopes. Whether you're a tentative beginner just getting your gear on or an advanced skier chasing speed, you'll find the perfect terrain here.

My favorite part, though, was definitely the unforgettable scenery! From the mountainside, you get panoramic views of the entire Echigo-Yuzawa mountain range and the valley towns below. The vista is incredibly open, and on a clear day, the grandeur is truly breathtaking. The venue also features super cool and unique transparent dome tents and stylish cafés, which are perfect for non-skiing companions. Even if you don't ski, you can elegantly sip a hot drink while enjoying the snowscape.

After a day of skiing, with a pleasant mix of fatigue and exhilaration, a warm onsen bath is the ultimate indulgence. Honestly, from the facilities and slope design to the scenic atmosphere, I could find almost no flaws with this resort. It's a perfect destination that satisfies both "passionate skiers" and "leisure vacationers."

#A globally rare ski resort directly connected to the Shinkansen, offering ski-in/ski-out access

REVIEWED BY [妙麗](https://www.twosevenths.com/en/tag/%E5%A6%99%E9%BA%97)

EXPERIENCED · 2025.12.18

GALA Yuzawa Snow Resort, located directly above GALA Yuzawa Station on the Joetsu Shinkansen line, is the Echigo-Yuzawa Ski Resort's most iconic entry-level tourist-oriented ski area, and a globally rare ski resort directly connected to a Shinkansen station.

The station concourse itself is the "Cowabunga" ski center, integrating ski and snowboard rentals, a ski school, large lockers, restaurants, and shops all within the same building, with an extremely smooth and modern flow. This ski-in/ski-out convenience, where you can hit the slopes right after getting off the train, is what Hermione believes makes this Echigo-Yuzawa Ski Resort truly irreplaceable. Even first-time skiers to Japan can easily prepare in this clearly guided space without feeling flustered.

However, the actual skiing experience this time left us with mixed feelings. The incredible convenience of transportation brings an unimaginable "explosive crowd," and the overall sense of congestion is very strong. Our visit coincided with a blizzard, and poor visibility combined with too many visitors meant fallen skiers were everywhere on the slopes, and the gondola queues became chaotic and out of control due to the massive flow of people. The most frustrating part was during breaks: just to warm up with a bowl of ramen, we had to queue for a full hour. Moving in and out of the resort felt like being stuck in a massive traffic jam, significantly detracting from the experience.

While the facilities and convenience are impeccable, if you're seeking the joy of comfortable skiing and dislike noisy environments, this might not be the best choice. Conversely, for beginners or families with tight schedules who don't want to carry equipment and simply want to experience the fun of playing in the snow, this remains the top choice with the lowest transportation costs. Just be sure to mentally prepare for the crowds and queue times before you go.
