#Firm texture, balanced caramel bitterness

REVIEWED BY [VeRiTy](https://www.twosevenths.com/en/tag/verity/)

EXPERIENCED · 2025.10.03

White Glass Coffee, near Shibuya's New South Exit, is tucked away on a tree-lined path. Its wood and white-wall design creates a clean, bright atmosphere, with large floor-to-ceiling windows letting sunlight stream in. The air carries the scent of roasted beans and milk. VeRiTy ordered an oolong tea latte and a Tokyo Coffee Shop Pudding, seeking a quiet break between appointments.

The pudding has a deep caramel color and a rich aroma. When you cut into it with a spoon, you can feel its firm, almost unyielding texture. Though slightly dense at first, it slowly melts in the mouth, revealing a subtle egg flavor and a hint of caramel bitterness. The overall sweetness is moderate, with a balanced ratio of bitter caramel and creamy milk, finishing clean without any lingering stickiness.

Paired with the oolong tea latte, the interplay of tea aroma and caramel bitterness makes each bite more intriguing than the pudding alone. VeRiTy feels that this pudding, much like the venue itself, is neat, consistent, and clean-tasting—it won't disappoint, but it won't particularly amaze either. It fulfills its role as a dessert, perhaps lacking a memorable emotional punch, but still offers a pleasant afternoon that makes you want to linger.

#Every bite is an honest taste of egg and bittersweet caramel

REVIEWED BY [VeRiTy](https://www.twosevenths.com/en/tag/verity/)

EXPERIENCED · 2025.10.06

VeRiTy's search for the perfect Tokyo Coffee Shop Pudding led to egg baby café, tucked under the 2k540 AKI-OKA ARTISAN viaduct. This popular venue, themed around "eggs," feels less like a traditional kissaten and more like a bright, stylish design café. The pure white and pale yellow space is high-ceilinged and open, with sunlight streaming through large glass windows. The occasional faint rumble of passing trains adds a touch of urban rhythm to the warm atmosphere.

The star of the show soon arrived: the square pudding, lauded countless times on social media. It was served on a small white plate, its precise square shape resembling a carefully polished block of creamy goodness. The caramel layer was thin and translucent, slowly dripping down the sharp edges, shimmering with an amber glow.

Cutting into it with a spoon, you feel a firm, springy resistance, a testament to its quality ingredients. The moment it touches your palate, a richer egg flavor than most kissaten puddings quickly takes over, followed by the subtle bitterness of the caramel and a gentle creaminess, with just the right amount of sweetness. The accompanying hot matcha latte, with its slight bitterness, perfectly balanced the richness of the pudding, making each taste a pure delight.

VeRiTy savored the experience, noting that the charm of this dessert lies not in its flashy appearance, but in its return to the essence of rich egg flavor and steady taste. It's a quiet yet honest sense of happiness found in a corner of the city.

#Seasonal pudding with a cheese-like texture and layered flavors

REVIEWED BY [VeRiTy](https://www.twosevenths.com/en/tag/verity/)

EXPERIENCED · 2025.10.02

VeRiTy made a special trip to Nakameguro for Azabu Kōken Nakameguro's famous omurice. This venue, known for its Showa-era Western-style cuisine, has a gentle, warm glow from its lighting, and its wooden decor and white walls create a simple yet nostalgic atmosphere. VeRiTy ordered the omurice as the main course: the smooth omelet wrapped fluffy rice, and the tomato sauce had just the right amount of acidity. The dish was well-balanced and not greasy, a classic that you can quietly savor.

Before finishing the meal, VeRiTy noticed a sign at the counter advertising a "seasonal pudding—chestnut × chocolate." It was an impulse add-on, but it turned out to be the highlight. The dessert was presented in layers: the bottom layer was a bittersweet chocolate pudding with a texture between pudding and cheese—rich yet smooth. The middle layer was topped with soft whipped cream, Biscoff cookies, and chestnuts, adding both visual and gustatory appeal.

Upon tasting, the bitterness of the chocolate emerged first, followed by the sweetness of the chestnuts and the richness of the cream, complemented by the sweetness of the Biscoff cookies. These four elements blended naturally in the mouth. The sweetness was very subtle, yet the dessert revealed rich layers through its transitions. VeRiTy felt that this was not a traditional pudding in the usual sense, but rather a creation by the venue that used "pudding" as a starting point, making it both familiar and fresh. It was an elegant conclusion to the dinner.

#Rich Wasanbon Caramel and Deep Egg Flavor

REVIEWED BY [VeRiTy](https://www.twosevenths.com/en/tag/verity/)

EXPERIENCED · 2025.09.30

As a Tokyo Coffee Shop Pudding aficionado, the moment VeRiTy arrived at Shinjuku Station, she headed straight for Kanno Coffee, located right at the subway exit. Like most chain coffee venues, you find your own seat before ordering at the counter. Kanno Coffee is renowned not only for its single-origin coffees but also for its highly sought-after Tokyo Coffee Shop Pudding.

The venue's menu is simple and clear: beverages are limited to coffee and tea, yet the coffee selection reveals a craftsman's deep dedication. Dessert options are more varied, including Mont Blanc, small cakes, these puddings, and a few Japanese room-temperature tea snacks. Savory items include filled French bread. The overall dining environment is clean and minimalist, making it an excellent spot for an afternoon break, a casual get-together, or a work discussion.

When it arrived on a silver dessert stand, the Tokyo Coffee Shop Pudding was already incredibly enticing! Even without any whipped cream or fruit garnishes, this unpretentious pudding's soft texture was evident in its very presentation. The moment VeRiTy's spoon touched it, the pudding still had a slight bounce, and upon tasting, the milky flavor melted in her mouth alongside the caramel. Beyond the fresh taste of the eggs and milk, the most surprising element was the lingering finish of wasanbon sugar.

The caramel's most impressive aspect is the balance it strikes between its toasted aroma, bittersweetness, and the pudding itself. Kanno Coffee not only achieves this harmony effortlessly, but the unique production method of wasanbon sugar also softens both the sweetness and bitterness, further highlighting the egg and milk flavors without diminishing the caramel's essential presence. As the caramel's sweetness returned, VeRiTy experienced a gentle quality that typical caramel cannot deliver—a mildness that, despite its subtlety, became the key to its surprising appeal.

While this Tokyo Coffee Shop Pudding lacks a fancy appearance and isn't suitable for takeout gifts, enjoying it at the venue makes it an exceptionally outstanding and fitting dessert. If you visit Japan, be sure to seize the opportunity to try it!
