For divers who love marine life, Taiwan's underwater world, both on the main island and its smaller islets, offers distinct charms—from the adorable sea turtles of Xiaoliuqiu to the crystal-clear waters and coral reefs of Green Island and Orchid Island. Longdong, the most popular diving spot closest to Taipei, is a favorite among many diving enthusiasts due to its convenient accessibility. Today, Twosevenths' mystery shopper is here to review a popular Longdong diving venue. Let's see what the verdict is on Ofucos!

About Ofucos

Ofucos was originally the name of founder A-Zhao’s blog when he wrote about the secret cliff-diving spots of Longdong, conveying the free-spirited idea that life is short, so "Of course, take risks." The venue primarily offers Taipei Freediving, scuba diving, skiing, and flying courses. Bearing a name that embodies adventure, it has grown into a large team that guides travelers both domestically and internationally, with plans to expand worldwide!
✦The venue name is fun, but the owner's name is even more so.
Ofucos has a unique name, and the owner's name is even more intriguing. Coaches and customers alike affectionately call him "Ao." The character "Ao" is the middle character of the owner's given name, a character created by Empress Wu Zetian. It combines the character for "bright" (明) above with "sky" (空) below, symbolizing the sun and moon shining simultaneously in the sky. This evokes a bright atmosphere, representing the idea of illuminating oneself while also illuminating others.

✦Taiwan's first PADI-certified 5-star dive center
Ofucos is Taiwan's first PADI 5-Star Dive Center, and in its first year of operation, it trained over 200 certified divers in just one summer. It also boasts the highest number of Taipei Freediving instructors in Taiwan.

✦The only legally certified accommodation in Longdong
Ofucos is the only legally certified accommodation in Longdong, with a clean, natural wood interior and abundant plant decor. Upon entering, you'll find a bright and spacious common lounge area.

The rooms feature wooden bunk beds, creating a very relaxing and comfortable atmosphere for students coming to learn Taipei Freediving.

✦A coaching team that's both young and professional
Compared to other Taipei Freediving venues, Ofucos is a vibrant, professional, and youthful team of instructors. They're easy to get along with, like friends, so you'll feel completely at ease.

✦Top choice for freediving certification in Northern Taiwan
For Taipei office workers, getting your Taipei Freediving certification in Longdong is a super convenient option. Plus, once you're certified there, it's easy to find practice buddies to keep honing your freediving skills, so you won't have to worry about being a "freediving orphan"!

Ofucos Course Features

In just two years since its founding, Ofucos has served customers from 36 countries worldwide, establishing itself as the top choice for many scuba diving and Taipei Freediving enthusiasts in Taiwan, and earning international recognition for its excellent reputation.
✦Foreign language instruction for diving is also available.
For international students or those less comfortable with Chinese, this Longdong freediving venue also offers foreign language instruction. Just mention it when you book, and Ofucos will arrange a suitable instructor.

✦Scuba diving courses for solo learners
Ofucos offers PADI-certified scuba diving courses with a small class size, maintaining a maximum instructor-to-student ratio of 1:4. Classes can be started with just one student, and the venue even provides accommodation, making it incredibly convenient for students whether they live in Taipei or not.

✦The dive site is just a one-minute walk away.
Ofucos is located in Longdong, on the Northeast Coast, and it's a diver's paradise: you can walk to the Longdong No. 4 entry point in just one minute.

Freediving Certification Experience Review

Freediving, considered the world's second most dangerous extreme sport, requires thorough training to ensure students master underwater skills and know how to react in various situations. Ofucos's AIDA2 course spans three days, including a half-day of classroom instruction, a half-day of pool training, and a day and a half of ocean sessions.
✦You can prepare for the class materials in advance.
Before the course began, Ofucos provided May with three instructional videos and AIDA2 e-learning materials, allowing her to preview and familiarize herself with the content for a smoother learning experience.
They also reminded her to prepare motion sickness medication, ocean-friendly sunscreen, a notebook, and extra socks, ensuring May was fully prepared for the three-day program.

✦Accessible Subject Courses
On the first morning of the academic course, the instructor meticulously prepared explanatory videos, using slides paired with video to introduce us to human anatomy, the functions of various organs, and how they affect our performance underwater. We also learned the techniques and principles of breath regulation, breath-holding, and equalization.

Because the coach regularly enters freediving competitions to improve his own skills, he places a special emphasis on safety. He even shared a video of a past competition where he experienced LMC (Loss of Motor Control).
This helped May understand what LMC and BO (Blackout) are like, their causes, and how to prevent them. It also deeply impressed upon her the importance of recovery breathing after each ascent to the surface. The level of body awareness and control required is truly next-level.

✦Coaches provide divine guidance to break through breath-holding limits
May, who could only hold her breath for less than a minute and a half at home, was astonished to find herself holding it for 2 minutes and 20 seconds on her very first attempt after her instructor taught her proper full breathing techniques. She discovered that by becoming more familiar with and tolerant of the urge to breathe and the diaphragm's initial contractions, she could gradually extend her breath-hold time.

✦Patient encouragement creates the ideal freediving state
The second day of ocean training focuses on rope climbing, ear equalization, constant weight dives of 12-20 meters, and underwater rescues at 5-10 meters.

It's natural to feel a little flustered when you first enter open water, but the instructor was incredibly encouraging, giving May plenty of time to adjust. With one-on-one guidance, any mistakes were corrected immediately, leading to rapid progress.

The best part is that these follow-up training sessions are completely free. As long as an instructor is available, students are welcome to return to Longdong for more diving practice. Plus, if you and a few friends want to sign up for a certification course together, there are special group discounts available.

Ofucos: International Locations

Ofucos has Taipei Freediving locations in Longdong, Xiaoliuqiu, Okinawa, Thailand, and Green Island. Whether it's a directly managed venue, a sister venue, or a place where their instructors are regularly stationed, you can count on Ofucos for all your diving needs, no matter where you want to explore!
✦Xiaoliuqiu Four Seasons Base
As an outlying island perfect for diving year-round, Ofucos also has a base on Xiaoliuqiu, where Rongrong, one of the founders, is stationed long-term.

When temperatures drop in northern Taiwan, the Ofucos diving team heads south to Xiaoliuqiu for their lessons, with instructors supporting each other to ensure every student, no matter how far they've traveled, gets to experience the unforgettable joy of swimming with sea turtles.

✦Green Island Sister Venue
"Green Island Bay Resort" is Ofucos's sister venue, offering the same quality accommodation and excellent experience for Taipei Freediving on Green Island. You can also arrange your stay through Ofucos, which is very convenient.

✦International Dive Trip Planning
#Japan Okinawa Diving
Diving is also very popular in Okinawa, Japan, and Chinese-language services have been developed there for a long time, including many diving instructors from Taiwan. If you don't know where to start, Ofucos can help arrange it!

#Phuket Diving
If you're looking to dive in winter, Phuket, Thailand, is an excellent choice. While Thailand's summer is its rainy season with less stable weather, it offers a perfect climate complement when Taiwan turns cool. In fact, Ofucos's first scuba diving head instructor is permanently based there.

#Egypt Diving
Egypt, though less familiar to many, is actually one of the world's renowned dive sites. Its waters are home to sharks in winter, as well as numerous tanks and warships left over from World War II. Ofucos can directly assist in booking long-term stays with Chinese-speaking guides serving divers from around the world in Egypt's Red Sea, offering much more transparent pricing compared to arranging it yourself locally.

Mystery Shopper Rating
