The eerie legend of the "Yellow Raincoat Imp" has long haunted Taiwan's mountaineering community. Always clad in a bright yellow raincoat, this mysterious figure is most often seen on high-mountain trails, shrouded in dense fog and riddled with treacherous forks. From a distance, the Imp appears to be a helpful guide, silently emerging before hikers and waving in a certain direction, seemingly offering to lead the way. Yet the truth is precisely the opposite: those who follow its path often stumble into danger, sometimes never returning.
The Imp has been sighted multiple times by hikers around Yushan's Paiyun Lodge, its presence inextricably linked with an unsettling atmosphere. The Qiyun Cabin, too, has become a desolate, forbidden zone, gradually abandoned by people, leaving behind only whispered tales and taboos. To this day, a warning circulates among mountaineers: "If you see the Yellow Raincoat Imp, do not follow, or you will be lost forever in the deep mountains."
