First Stop: Rei Kimono Rental

First Stop: Rei Kimono Rental

To make the most beautiful memories in Asakusa, your first stop should definitely be a kimono rental! While there are many kimono venues around Asakusa, Twosevenths highly recommends booking the exquisite Rei, and be sure to arrive right when they open at 9 AM. Coming early gives you the best chance to pick out those beautiful, unique, and popular styles, avoiding any outfit clashes.

The staff at Rei are incredibly professional and attentive, offering the best advice from choosing patterns, matching sashes and accessories, to the final delicate hair styling. Donning a high-quality kimono instantly imbues you with the elegant atmosphere of the Edo period. Because this venue is very popular, be sure to book your time slot online in advance. Once dressed, you'll be ready to begin your Asakusa stroll in the most beautiful attire!

Stop 2: Asakusa Kaminarimon and Senso-ji Temple

Stop 2: Asakusa Kaminarimon and Senso-ji Temple

Once you’re dressed in your beautiful kimono, a short walk will bring you to Asakusa’s most iconic landmark, Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate). This famous spot, with its giant red lantern, is always bustling with people, so seize the morning before the crowds peak to snap some stunning commemorative photos! After your photoshoot, stroll down Nakamise-dori all the way to the main hall of Senso-ji Temple.

Here, you can offer a heartfelt prayer, draw a fortune slip, and even get a Goshuin stamp at the adjacent temple office as a souvenir. Twosevenths was lucky enough to snag a limited-edition God of Wealth omamori (charm) this time — it’s truly a special keepsake! The ancient, traditional architecture of Senso-ji, paired with your carefully chosen kimono, makes every corner and every turn a perfect photo opportunity!

Third Stop: Hyugamaru Sushi

Third Stop: Hyugamaru Sushi

After a morning of exploring in a kimono, you're bound to be hungry! For lunch, Twosevenths recommends Hinatomaru Sushi, a local favorite known for its incredible value. Every piece of sushi here is expertly hand-pressed to order by a professional chef, using only the freshest fish delivered daily, so quality is absolutely guaranteed.

The menu features a rich variety of sashimi, a true delight for seafood lovers. We especially recommend their shellfish for its sweet, crisp texture. But when you come to Hinatomaru, you absolutely must try their tuna series — the fish is incredibly fresh, with perfectly marbled fat that literally melts in your mouth! If it's your first time and you're unsure what to order, a set meal is the most economical choice, paired with a steaming bowl of delicious miso soup. It's definitely one of Twosevenths' must-try spots in Asakusa!

Stop 4: Imado Shrine

Stop 4: Imado Shrine

After a satisfying meal, we took a leisurely stroll along the Sumida River to Imado Shrine, a little removed from the bustling main areas. This incredibly popular shrine is famous for prayers for love and as the birthplace of the Maneki-neko (beckoning cat), making it a favorite among young couples and women!

Stepping into the shrine, you're immediately surrounded by Maneki-neko. From charms and omikuji fortunes to round ema prayer plaques and special Goshuin stamps, everything is incredibly cute. It's easy to go from a simple visit to a shopping spree! After paying your respects, remember to write your wish and hang it on the ema wall. Before you leave, don't forget to gently stroke the adorable pair of Maneki-neko stone statues at the shrine — it's said that a sincere touch will bring abundant good fortune and wealth home with you!

Stop 5: GOKU Wagyu Sukiyaki

Stop 5: GOKU Wagyu Sukiyaki

As our day in Tokyo drew to a close, we headed for dinner at GOKU Wagyu Sukiyaki, a venue I always make sure to visit. This spot is famous for its generously sized, premium wagyu slices, with menu options in large, medium, and small portions to suit any appetite. The wagyu beef is truly exceptional, sliced to the perfect thickness. After a quick swirl in the hotpot, it melts in your mouth, the rich, buttery flavor of the beef fat creating a truly blissful experience.

The staff are incredibly welcoming and can communicate in basic English, even demonstrating the ideal cooking method right at your table. The best part is the unlimited refills of rice, raw eggs, and soup. And for the grand finale, I highly recommend finishing your meal with their truffle egg yolk rice — its intoxicating aroma will leave you craving more!
