To ensure high-quality instruction, Lunar Studio operates on an appointment-only, small-group basis, with private classes available for solo participants, allowing every student to create in a safe and comfortable environment. No prior experience is needed, as professional metalsmith Michelle will be there to guide and assist you throughout the entire process, making it an ideal destination for couples, friends, and anniversary celebrations.

Taipei Metalworking is a craft that demands exceptional eyesight and precision, so ample lighting was the primary focus when designing the space. Michelle also prefers a "warm sense of ritual" in the studio's style, as many customers come to Lunar Studio with special commemorative intentions. To enhance this, she changes the art installations every season and regularly adds floral arrangements. Her goal is for guests to feel they're entering a sophisticated art salon, not a factory, when they arrive.

Tools are clearly labeled and workspaces are well-defined, making it easy for guests to understand which tool to use at each step and minimizing potential errors during the process. For engraving, there's a wide and comprehensive selection of options, allowing for personalized designs.

Lunar Studio offers a range of meticulously designed pieces, but if you have your own vision, you're welcome to discuss it with the metalsmith. They'll recommend the most suitable crafting techniques based on feasibility. Don't worry if you can't draw; you can add on a "custom design service" to bring your ideas to life, making it perfect for those new to Taipei Metalworking.

For those with prior experience, this Taipei Metalworking workshop encourages you to take on a "fully customized piece," with professional metalworkers assisting with more challenging structural designs. For example, we saw a "pet nose print" design in the venue, which allows you to create a unique keepsake of your furry friend's imprint.

Lunar Studio is not only an LGBTQ+-friendly space on Google Maps, but also a pet-friendly studio. Two cats and a Shiba Inu intern are on hand to keep you company while you work, adding a touch of warmth and comfort to the often-cool image of Taipei Metalworking.

A quick reminder: if you plan to bring a pet, please inform the studio in advance and prepare a pet carrier or bag. They will reserve a suitable space for your beloved companion. The venue's resident cats and lively black Shiba Inu make occasional appearances but won't interfere with your crafting process. If you're uncomfortable around animals, please let the venue know beforehand.

Most rings take 1.5 to 2 hours to make. For more intricate designs like diamond settings or laser engraving, a master metalsmith will handle the work, which takes about 3 hours, with pricing quoted separately based on design complexity. The most popular choice right now is the diamond-set style, where exquisite craftsmanship and a touch of sparkle elevate a simple piece into something truly luxurious.

Most bracelets take about 1.5 hours to make, with three styles to choose from: wide flat, square C-shaped, and twisted. The twisted style is the most challenging to create, but it also makes for a richer overall experience. The standard size is 15 cm; additional length incurs an extra charge. Hand-polishing and fine-tuning services are also available to ensure a more refined finish and precise details.

After your reservation is confirmed, you'll need to join the official Line account to discuss pendant details with the studio. The metalsmith will then provide a precise quote based on your desired shape, size, word count, and pattern complexity. Please finalize your design at least 7 days before your experience. Additional charges will apply for larger sizes, increased thickness, extra small pendants, or complex patterns, calculated based on material usage.

Lunar Studio's space is incredibly versatile, and in addition to Taipei Metalworking, their past weaving and bath bomb workshops were very well-received. They now offer "private event planning," where they can help arrange various aesthetic experiences tailored to client needs, such as corporate events or friend parties. They are also open to more cross-industry collaborations in the future!

Lunar Studio offers a wide variety of rings, all available for fitting, which initially left Lin and her friend at a delightful impasse when it came to choosing a style. Michelle, the instructor, was incredibly patient, never rushing them. She thoroughly explained everything and answered all their questions, making them feel completely at ease as newcomers to Taipei Metalworking.

After some deliberation, Lin chose the minimalist twisted ring, while her friend opted for the slender Möbius ring. Once they changed into aprons and finalized their designs, they headed to the workbench to begin crafting and confirm the details. When measuring ring sizes, the instructor also offered advice on different sizes based on individual knuckle dimensions. Compared to buying a ring off the shelf, personally measuring the ring size was a novel experience for me.

Next, we moved on to the actual creation process: hammering, annealing, bending, welding, and fine-tuning the details. Before each hands-on step, the instructor provided clear explanations and demonstrations. All the tools on the workbench were clearly labeled, making it easy to follow along and complete each step without any confusion.

Because her friend chose a narrow band, there was no stamping step. Instead, Lin practiced several times on a test piece before stamping the actual ring, as there was only one chance. Fortunately, the final result was quite satisfying. Her friend reminded her that no matter the outcome, every mark was a memorable handmade trace, which made Lin realize the unique originality of each piece.

When it came to annealing and bending, the instructor explained and demonstrated each step, even showing us previous mishaps from other students so we could learn from their mistakes. When it was our turn to try, the instructor guided and reminded us, but never took over, and we could ask any questions we had on the spot.

As the bending concluded, the experience entered its latter half. The instructor reminded us to resist the urge to immediately try on the rings. Although they were taking shape and fitting the size after being hammered, they still needed welding and polishing to be truly ready for wear.

During the welding and polishing stages, we truly understood the meaning of specialized skills. Even when we thought we had perfectly welded the joints or polished the ring until the seams were invisible, the instructor always spotted imperfections, refining our pieces to elevate their overall sophistication.

For example, during the polishing stage, you need to switch between different sized polishing tools. In our hands, the difference might not seem significant, but with the instructor's fine-tuning on the same machine, the ring's luster truly emerged. The instructor also made further adjustments using a more professional and somewhat riskier polishing machine. Once we put the rings back on, they were perfectly sized, with a smooth, non-scratchy finish.

After we finished our creations, the instructor led us to a corner of the studio, which we quickly realized was a dedicated photo booth for rings. It was equipped with mirrors, fresh flowers, preserved flowers, slate, and wood grain boards—all the props you could need to capture beautiful images. There were also lights and macro lenses available to borrow, and if you weren't sure how to shoot, the instructor offered advice on angles. That day, we not only experienced Taipei Metalworking and took home our finished jewelry, but we also created wonderful visual memories to cherish.
