About Y17 Climbing Gym

The Y17 Climbing Gym is tucked away inside the Taipei City Youth Development Office building, right next to Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. It's about a 10-15 minute walk from the MRT station, perfect for a warm-up stroll. The gym itself is simple and straightforward. The 20-ping space comfortably accommodates about 25 people. Beyond the basic reception and restrooms, most of the area is dedicated to the main climbing space. Stepping into the climbing zone, the narrow, high-ceilinged area feels like entering a hidden grotto. At 12 meters, it holds the title of Taipei's tallest climbing gym. Y17 Climbing Gym is a popular choice for school field trips in Taipei, and it's also ideal for beginners who have some prior climbing experience and are ready to take on the challenge of top-roping.

Natural terrain-inspired walls

Y17 Climbing Gym, Taiwan's first indoor climbing facility, is highly rated and a pilgrimage site for experienced climbers, with many professional coaches rumored to have been VIP regulars. A standout feature is its unique, natural-terrain-inspired walls, a rarity in modern climbing gyms. These undulating surfaces mimic outdoor environments, allowing climbers to practice not just on artificial holds but also by observing and utilizing natural handholds and footholds, fully exploring the sensation of outdoor climbing.

Climbing has become a huge trend since its debut as an official competitive sport at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. It's a full-body workout that demands balance and precise movement, which is why it's often described as "dancing on the rock"! Myling chose to try top-roping, which requires a belayer to secure the rope and carabiners as you ascend to heights of 9 to 15 meters. Five stories high sounds intense, but with proper safety precautions, climbing is a friendly aerial sport for all ages, heights, and weights!

Coaches help beginners climb with ease

First-time visitors will need to fill out a "Safe Climbing Rules" form. After a basic warm-up and a thorough safety check, the instructor will help you put on your harness and carabiners, and guide your belay partner through a practice run. Honestly, the brand-new climbing shoes and rope systems at Y17 Climbing Gym made this climbing newbie feel completely at ease and ready to tackle the wall! For the first climb, the instructor starts you on a beginner-friendly route, encouraging you to explore freely like a newborn. Don't worry about official handholds or footholds; just focus on reaching the top. Climb and explore at your own pace, overcome any initial discomfort with heights, and then fully enjoy the fun of being Spider-Man.
