Unlike traditional bunk beds where you might hit your head on the ceiling, this setup offered ample room to stretch out. The in-room storage was surprisingly spacious; no matter how much luggage I spread out, it never felt cramped, which significantly eased travel fatigue. The bathroom was equally spacious and clean, maintaining a comfortable standard of use.

The additional services at this hostel were a delightful surprise, far exceeding what you'd expect from a typical backpacker venue and truly showcasing their dedication to guests.

My stay at Xiaoxicheng Inn began with an unexpected upgrade: my reserved single room was swapped for a more spacious double suite, offering a unique sense of freedom and comfort for a solo traveler.
 
While the inn's exterior is tucked away in an aged building, and the elevator might initially evoke a sense of bygone eras, the moment the room door opens, you're greeted by warm wood-toned decor that instantly washes away any retro feel from outside. The comfortable bed and pristine space immediately put you at ease.
 
The public lounge on the reception floor is a vibrant highlight of the inn. Large windows flood the bright seating area with abundant natural light, creating a particularly cozy atmosphere. Whether you're enjoying late-night takeout or working on your laptop, you'll feel a sense of relaxed ease.
 
However, for those opting for bunk beds in the mixed dorms, some guests have noted a more basic environment, particularly regarding sound insulation. According to several customer reviews, combined with a bar downstairs and frequent elevator traffic at night, this might be a consideration for backpackers sensitive to noise.
 
Overall, for single or double rooms, Xiaoxicheng Inn offers excellent value, making it especially suitable for light travelers on a budget who still want to immerse themselves in Taichung's artistic and cultural vibe.

Hermione stayed at Yishe Inn, which is conveniently located less than a 10-minute walk from Taichung Railway Station.

This Taichung hostel offers gender-separated accommodation, so there's no mixed-gender dorms, and the environment is very clean; guests change into indoor slippers upon entry. The common areas are thoughtfully equipped with complimentary tea bags, a microwave, and cups. A 24-hour front desk is staffed at all times, though guests are required to leave their room cards with the front desk when going out, which is a unique policy.

While the rooms lack external windows, they are well-equipped with all the essentials, and soundproofing is excellent. Despite a KTV being located upstairs, there was no noise, ensuring a peaceful night's sleep. The bathroom features a dry/wet separation design, offering a clean space and strong water pressure for a comfortable shower. A particularly charming touch is the small basket provided by the inn, containing a bath towel and mineral water, allowing guests to conveniently carry them to the shower.

Kiwi Express Hotel - Zhanqian 2 is conveniently located diagonally across from Taichung Railway Station, offering excellent access to attractions like Miyahara Eye Clinic and the Cultural and Creative Park, making it a great base for exploring. Upon entering, guests must change into slippers; shoe lockers are available on the first floor, though larger shoes might prevent the locker door from closing completely. Self-check-in kiosks are provided, but female dorm guests must check in at the counter.

The rooms are on the smaller side, barely accommodating large luggage, and guests are required to make their own beds, which we found a bit inconvenient. However, the large platform next to the bed is very handy for placing belongings. The hostel's toilets and showers are separate; there are six shower stalls, which are a bit cramped and show some water stains, but the provided facial cleanser is good and the hairdryer is powerful. No toiletries are supplied, so guests need to bring their own towels, toothbrushes, etc., or purchase them from the vending machine on the first floor.

This Taichung Hostel's common area offers amenities like a Nintendo Switch, PS4, and a pool table, ensuring there's plenty to do in the evenings! Breakfast is also served until 10 AM, featuring simple toast, dinner rolls, croissants, and coffee, making it a high-value option for travelers seeking affordable accommodation.

Green Hotel's unique "Green Hotel Airlines" theme makes checking in an experience in itself, like a quick, mock international trip. Upon arrival, the friendly service at the front desk immediately puts you at ease, and you can even pick out a succulent plant to bring back to your room, adding a personal touch of greenery.

Stepping into the lobby, the first thing you notice is the living wall that stretches from the first floor all the way to the top, lush and climbing upwards in the light. Paired with the overall natural wood decor, the air itself seems to carry a hint of nature. This clever integration of natural elements and design truly brings the space to life.

The "Photosynthesis Forest" on the basement level offers a space for quiet contemplation. The entire area is bright and comfortable, perfect for borrowing board games to enjoy with friends or relaxing while sampling essential oil scents. The only drawback is that this common area closes at midnight.

Green Hotel's location is a clear advantage, just a 3-minute walk from Feng Chia Night Market. This makes finding food and shopping incredibly convenient, yet it cleverly avoids the night market's hustle and bustle, striking a balance between lively and peaceful. For travelers who plan to frequently visit the night market, this is a significant bonus.

Room spaces are on the tighter side, and the soundproofing, combined with the motion-sensor light's activation and deactivation sounds, might require some adjustment for light sleepers. Guests are advised to make use of the complimentary earplugs provided at the front desk to ensure a good night's rest. Additionally, several guests have noted that there is room for improvement in cleanliness.

Punctual checkout is an important rule at Green Hotel; an overtime fee of NT$200 will be charged for checkouts past 11 AM, so be sure to keep an eye on the time. Overall, Green Hotel is ideal for travelers who appreciate thoughtful design, a sense of story, and have Feng Chia Night Market on their itinerary, offering a convenient and welcoming place to stay.

Mupinju Inn, located near Taichung Railway Station, is just a 10-minute walk away, making it incredibly convenient for solo travelers or those needing last-minute accommodation.

This Taichung hostel features a "space capsule" theme, with cute, high-tech capsule rooms where you can even adjust the lighting color. The air conditioning is wonderfully cool and comfortable. The only minor drawback is that the charging ports are USB only, and the personal locker requires a password entry each time, which is a bit inconvenient but offers high security. The women's bathroom lighting is a bit dim, but overall cleanliness is acceptable, offering good value for the price.

Check-in is entirely self-service, from unlocking your phone and opening the electronic capsule door to entering your room—the whole process feels like an escape room, best suited for those familiar with tech. The common areas are well-equipped with a washing machine, dryer, refrigerator, coffee machine, and water dispenser. However, the coffee flavor wasn't to our liking, which was a slight disappointment.

The Chengxing Hostel, where Hermione stayed this time, is located directly above the CMP Block Museum of Arts. The entire space is beautifully designed, with a Muji-esque aesthetic featuring wood tones and greenery, creating a tranquil, clean, and comfortable environment.

The single rooms are much more spacious than typical Taichung Hostels, allowing guests to fully unpack and organize their luggage on the floor. The mattress and duvet are incredibly soft, ensuring a super comfortable night's sleep. The bathroom was also a pleasant surprise — exceptionally clean and attractive, with a separate wet and dry area, plus clean floor mats available for self-service. For those needing conditioner, panty liners, cotton swabs, or makeup remover pads, these are also provided, and there's even a hair straightener available, thoughtfully meeting guest needs (just remember to bring your own towel!).

The common areas of this Taichung Hostel are equally impressive. The wooden floors and tatami area create a relaxing atmosphere, complete with beanbag chairs and work desks, perfect for unwinding or getting things done. Beyond complimentary cookies, the pantry also features an honesty shop selling instant noodles and drinks, ensuring travelers won't go hungry for a late-night snack.

The highlight I most want to recommend is the freshly prepared breakfast! This time, I enjoyed a freshly pan-fried scallion pancake with egg and black tea, both delicious. There were also side dishes, plain congee, and a self-service toast and jam bar with six jam flavors to choose from. For a hostel, having such a diverse and high-quality breakfast is truly impressive, and I highly recommend waking up early to enjoy it!
